Estate Agent steals £37k!

Agent steals £37k from business after it goes into administration.

A former managing director of a Rotherwell agency, which went out of business back in 2007, has appeared in court charged with stealing around £37,000.

Robert Chambers is accused of stealing sums of money ranging from £525 to £13,950 from the company after being told by HM Revenue and Customs to wind the company up two years ago.

The cash is owed to 11 people who are believed to be former Cream tenants and landlords who let properties through the company.

After numerous clients began to complain to police in 2007 saying that they had lost hundreds of pounds in deposits and rent owed to them by the agency, police issued a warrant for Chambers,

Tenants claimed they had paid cash deposits which they lost when the firm went under, while landlords complained of having trouble getting rent payments from the estate agent company.
